renewals
7 November 2007
The MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Paul Mashatile, through
Liquor Licensing Office urges all liquor licence holders to renew their
licences for 2008 issued under the National Liquor Act of 1989.
In terms of the National Liquor Act, 1989 liquor licences have to be renewed
annually on or before 31 December of each year. "Should a licence holder not be
able to renew his / her licence on or before 31 December, the South African
Receiver of Revenue (SARS) will still accept payment during January with a 50%
extra surcharge and February with a 100% extra surcharge," he said.
The liquor licensing office will be sending renewals with effect from 1
November 2007.
The Cross Boundary Municipalities Laws Repeal and Related Matters Act, 2005
(Act 23 of 2005), repeals all legislative provisions with regard to cross
boundary municipalities, and provides for the consequential matters as a result
of the re-alignment of former cross-boundary municipalities and the
re-determination of the geographical areas of provinces.
The legislation above requires that:
*. re-demarcation of the Merafong Local Municipality to wholly fall with the
province of North West,
* re-demarcation of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to wholly fall with
the province of Gauteng.
"We would like to urge all liquor traders in the affected areas to take note
that they should renew with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development
Liquor Licensing Office," said Kenneth Mapengo of the Gauteng Liquor Board.
Affected areas include Ga-Rankuwa, Moretele, Mabopane, Odi, Themba, MPH and
Ekangala.
