bridging the gap on skills development
19 April 2007
Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs, Paul Mashatile, will delver a
keynote address at the launch of a youth training programme whose purpose is to
train young people to take up employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in
the air conditioning industry.
In terms of the programme, which is led by the Gauteng Youth Commission
(GYC), the Ifihlile Training Academy will this year provide training to 170
young people across Gauteng to equip them with skills required by the
air-conditioning industry. "The programme is a direct response to the need for
us to address the skills challenge facing the provincial economy," said
Mashatile. "We are delighted that the Gauteng Youth Commission is leading this
important initiative and we will continue to support them."
Mashatile said the air-conditioning industry is one of the industries likely
to benefit from the current construction boom in Gauteng. Chairperson of the
Gauteng Youth Commission, Lebogang Maile, said the programme will give the
youth of Gauteng an opportunity to play a meaningful role and benefit from one
of Gauteng's growing industries. "There is a serious shortage of skills in the
air-conditioning industry and we believe this programme will go a long way in
addressing this challenge," said Maile. Details of the event are as
