P Jordan to receive equipment from Japanese ambassador, 4 Oct

Media invitation to the handover ceremony between Japan and
South Africa

28 September 2006

Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Z. Pallo Jordan, will accept the
grant-in-aid consisting of sophisticated modern sound equipment for the State
Theatre.

The state of the art equipment is a donation from His Excellency, Ambassador
Furuya, of Japan who will personally hand it over to Minister Jordan at a
special ceremony on Wednesday, 4 October 2006.

Japan has previously donated other material to South African cultural
institutions like Robben Island. The machinery has enhanced the capability and
effectiveness of the organisation to carry out its mandate.

Significantly, the reception of the sophisticated equipment is a
continuation of the generous grant-in-aid provided to South African
institutions by Japan over the last few years.

"This is a testimony of the warm relationship that exists between our two
countries. We are delighted at this gift of modern equipment that will make the
creative effectiveness of our artists much easier and relevant to the 21st
century," said Minister Jordan.

Media is invited to attend and witness the handover ceremony.
