The National Youth Commission (NYC) invites members of the media to the
launch of the National Youth Service (NYS) housing project in the Drakenstein
municipality on Monday, 12 June 2006, at 09:00.
The Minister of Housing, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, the Premier of the Western Cape,
Mr Ebrahim Rasool, the Western Cape MEC for Local Government and Housing, Mr
Richard Dyantyi, NYC Chairperson, Jabu Mbalula and the Mayor of the Drakenstein
Municipality, Ms Charmaine Manuel are expected attend the completion and
handing over of houses to the beneficiaries.
The houses have been constructed by unemployed youth as part of the NYS
programme.
The NYS programme seeks to ensure that youth participate in national and
community development to enhance their skills for sustainable livelihoods.
The activity forms part of the national programme to commemorate and
celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Soweto and connected uprisings of 16 June
1976.
