The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), the Honourable
Mr. Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu today applauded participants in Expanded Public
Works Programme (EPWP) projects for their patience, voluntarism and commitment
towards community development.
The Chairperson led a delegation of Members of Parliament to two Expanded
Public Works Programme projects in Mothibistadt as part of the NCOP's Taking
Parliament to the People Campaign.
The North West Department of Public Works has spend close to R480 000 on
renovation of offices of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and
Environment and the first phase of brick-making, paving and erection of 15
carports at the Moshaweng Area Project Office of the Department of Education in
the area.
The 22 beneficiaries involved in both projects received on site accredited
training in brick-making, paving, painting, HIV and AIDS education, financial
management and career guidance.
The delegation also visited the paving bricks manufacturing site at the
Mothibistadt Public Works yard and Members of Parliament learned paving brick
manufacturing from enthusiastic EPWP beneficiaries.
The second phase of the brick-making, paving and erection of additional 15
carports at the Moshaweng Area Project Office commences on 3 April 2006.
Northern Cape MEC for Social Development, Mr Goolam Akharwaray, and
Councillors of the Ga-Segonyane Local Municipality were part of the NCOP
delegation.
