The Department of Public Works has suspended with immediate effect one of
its employees, Mr Phemelo Patrick Mothupi who appeared in the Mmabatho
Magistrate Court yesterday as a suspect in a state vehicle theft case.
The suspension of Mr Mothupi, employed as an Assistant Director in the
Information Management Directorate, follows the disappearance of a 2005 Nissan
Hardbody Light Delivery Vehicle from the department's parking pound last
Wednesday.
The department commends the police for their swift action and the recovery
of the state vehicle.
Meanwhile, the department has instituted internal investigations with a view
to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the employee as it views the
allegations in a very serious light.
