Progress in the implementation of women empowerment comes under the
spotlight during the Indaba with Women in Construction on Thursday, 23 August
2007.
The event, which coincides with Women's Month, will be held at the Mmabatho
Tusk in Mafikeng, 8h00.
More than 100 women in the North West construction sector are expected to
attend the event to talk about some of the challenges that face including
becoming eligible bidders for government tenders on construction projects.
There will also be presentations from financial institutions and the
Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). The department will also make
presentations on tendering processes, participation of women in Expanded Public
Works Programme (EPWP) and the transformation of the property industry.
The event seeks to highlight the opportunities available for women
contractors in the construction industry, which is considered one of the
fastest growing and currently experiencing a boom. It will however focus on
construction projects emanating from the department's programmes.
The theme for the gathering is: 'Building the unity of women in their
diversity.'
