The North West Department of Public Works in its closing presentation to the
Portfolio Committee on Public Works informed the committee that the national
Department of Public Works has appointed a team of experts to assist the
Central District Municipality Integrate Expanded Public Works Programme
delivery approaches in the delivery of basic infrastructure such as roads and
sidewalks. A budget of R50 million has been set aside for this purpose.
The Multiparty Parliamentary Delegation led by its Chairperson, Mr Fezile
Bhengu today concluded its hectic five-day provincial oversight visit programme
that included interaction with the Department of Public Works, the Department
of Developmental Local Government, municipalities, traditional leaders and
communities in the Bojanala, Bophirima and Central Region.
The North West Department of Public Works also informed the committee that
it is in the process of developing a Provincial Expanded Public Works Business
Plan for the current financial year and the next two years.
The business plan will serve as an annexure to the Memorandum of Agreement
that the national Minister of Public Works and the province will sign in line
with the Intergovernmental Relations Act in order to improve implementation of
the Expanded Public Works Programme and identify exit opportunities for
beneficiaries.
The department will also work with all public bodies to put in place sector
co-ordinating structures at all levels.
The provincial oversight visit included project site visits to the R25
million Integrated Modimola Expanded Public Works Project near Mafikeng,
Boitekong Water Reticulation EPWP Project and Meriting Road Construction EPWP
Project in Rustenburg. The highlight of the visit was the project site visit to
the R93 million Modimong EPWP Project in Taung launched early this year.
