North West Public Works on damages at Tshepong Hospital

Damages at North West Tshepong Hospital estimated at over R22
Million

15 November 2006

The assessment report on structural damage to Tshepong Hospital released
today by the technical team of the North West Department of Public Works,
estimates damage caused to the hospital by hailstorm and heavy rainfall to over
R22 million.

The technical expertise of the Provincial Department of Public Works was
requested by the Department of Health after the hospital was extensively
damaged on Monday.

The conceptual estimate includes roof repairs, painting and replacement of
damaged floor tiles, but excludes damage to mechanical, electrical and
electronic equipment, which still needs to be assessed once it has dried
up.

The technical team has also identified the need for a storm water drainage
system inside and outside the Tshepong Hospital premises to reduce flooding in
the event of rains.
