Following the successful People's Assembly 2007 workshops, which took place
across the North West province in August 2007, the North West Provincial
Legislature held a final provincial workshop on 5 September 2007 in Mafikeng
with the aim of selecting the 30 men and women who would represent the
province. From 120 people selected from across the province, a final 30 were
selected to represent the North West province.
People's Assembly 2007 will be tackling wide-ranging issues such as the
eradication of poverty and hunger, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other
diseases and Ensuring environmental sustainability.
The theme of this year's People's Assembly is 'Masijule Ngengxoxo Mzansi'
which means, 'Let's deepen the debate South Africa'.
The objectives of the People's Assembly are amongst others to build a
participation model that will reach the poor and unorganised, to strengthen
public participation, to educate people, especially about parliamentary
processes, to ensure feasibility of representation by parliamentarians, to
facilitate and encourage accountability by government, to break communication
barriers between ordinary people and their representatives and to work towards
cohesive and strengthened nation-building.
People's Assembly 2007 will take place in all nine provinces hosted by the
various legislatures with the parliamentary event taking place in Mbizana in
the Eastern Cape from 17 to 19 September 2007. In the North West province
People's Assembly 2007 will take place on 19 September 2007 in Mafikeng at the
University of the North West Great Hall.
The participants selected to represent the North West Province in Mafikeng
on 19 September 2007 are Tefo Pheto from Moses Kotane, Joel Tshimoeng from
Tswaing, Nalide Molatlhegi from Naledi, Lungile Mpupu from Merafong and Lucas
Mokonyane from Madibeng will be presenting on 'The eradication of poverty and
hunger.' Tlapu from Moses Kotane Municipality, Patience Phiri from Moses Kotane
Municipality, Makhutle from Merafong Municipality, Fefe Mokgabisi from Tswaing
Municipality and Sello Moleko from Ditsobotla Municipality and they will be
presenting under the thematic area 'Combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other
diseases.' Disebo Wessie from Naledi Municipality, Lydia Mongane from Naledi
Municipality, Mogomotsi Maeco from Mafikeng Municipality, Lenah Kgomo from
Moses Kotane Municipality and Rebecca Mathiba from Tswaing Municipality will
all be presenting on 'Ensuring environmental sustainability.'
Representing the North West province at Parliament in Mbizana in the Eastern
Cape are Nella Baartman from Merafong Municipality, Puleng Thulo from Tswaing
Municipality, Mokgautsi Magano from Ditsobotla Municipality, Lebogang Kgaile
from Madibeng Municipality and Jeremia Mokwena from Madibeng Municipality will
all be presenting on 'Ensuring environmental sustainability'. Pitso Court
Gulane from Naledi Municipality, Bridget Kwadi from Madibeng Municipality,
Dorothy Makgatlhane from Madibeng, Thami Mbazana from Merafong Municipality and
Keikanyemang Johannes Radipina from Naledi Municipality will all be presenting
on 'The eradication of poverty and hunger'. Modibedi from Lekwa Teemane
Municipality, Sarah Monnathebe from Ditsobotla Municipality, Molebatsi from
Madibeng Municipality, Mangwegape from Naledi Municipality and Ndolo Mafongozi
from Merafong Municipality will all be presenting on 'Combating HIV/AIDS,
malaria and other diseases'.

said the speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature.
People's Assembly 2007 will be flighted on SABC 2 from 9h00 to 13h00 on
