On Friday, 1 December 2006, the North West Provincial Legislature in
partnership with the Provincial Council on AIDS and the North West province
Department of Health will be holding an AIDS Seminar.
The purpose of the seminar is to show the North West Provincial
Legislature's commitment to an effective response to the HIV and AIDS pandemic;
enhancing as well as coming up with strategies and policies by ensuring a
co-ordinated, efficient and effective response to the pandemic within oral
approach; intervention to assist orphans, vulnerable persons including men,
women and children, disabled persons and empowerment of employees in the
workplace in order to take effective measures to live positively; equal access
to antiretrovirals (ARVs) and related medication including service excellence
in our hospitals and clinics and upholding equality, human dignity and respect
to all infected and affected persons in our society.
The thematic areas under discussion are Comprehensive Management and
Palliative Care; Public Private Partnerships: Lessons Learnt and Challenges;
HIV and AIDS and the Law and Quality Leadership and Commitment in the fight
against HIV and AIDS.
Presenters and facilitators come from all stakeholders identified,
provincially and nationally. A key partner in this regard is the North West
province Department of Health as well as the Provincial Council on AIDS. Other
identified stakeholders include doctors who treat and recommend treatment to
HIV positive patients, The AIDS Law Project, Treatment Action Campaign (TAC),
religious leaders, traditional leaders, South African National Non-Governmental
Organisation Coalition (SANGOCO) and of course politicians from the North West
Provincial Legislature.

from 09h00 to 14h00 on Friday, 1 December 2006, at the North West Provincial
Legislature.
