A media launch for Women's Month will be held on Thursday, 2 August 2007 at
the Mmabatho Tusk from 09h00.
The 2007 Women's Month will be celebrated under the theme 'Building the
unity of women in their diversity'. This theme acknowledges the differences
that exist among women in the country.
August month is set aside to commemorate the significant role played by
women in the struggle for a free South Africa. The day is celebrated to pay
homage to thousands of women of all races who ascended on the Union Buildings
on 9 August 1956 to hand over a memorandum to register their discontentment
with the then apartheid government and its draconian laws.
The 9 August provincial celebrations will take place at Lekgopung Village in
the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality.
A series of events will take place during the month to mark Women's Month. A
copy is attached for easy reference.
