The first Provincial Local House of Traditional Leaders will be inaugurated
at Moses Kotane Local Municipality in Bojanala on Friday, 7 September 2007.
The province has developed and enacted a Traditional Leadership legislation
which has institutionalised co-operative governance between government and
Dikgosi.
During her State of the Province Address earlier this year Premier Edna
Molewa said government has made good progress in strengthening the institutions
of traditional leadership and has pledged the provincial government's
support.
"We will continue to give both administrative and financial support as well
as providing the necessary infrastructure enabling Dikgosi to function
effectively," said Premier Molewa.
The infrastructure will include the building of traditional council offices
and provision of computers. The Local Government Sector Education and Training
Authority (Seta) will roll out a capacity building programme for all
traditional leaders to capacitate Dikgosi to deal with new opportunities and
challenges posed by transformation.
A second Local House is scheduled for inauguration in the Ngaka Modiri
Molema Municipality on Monday, 10 September 2007 at Mmabana in Mafikeng.
Media is invited to attend the two events.
