North West Office of the Premier on C Raseala winning Bua Award

Charles Raseala shines at the national awards

11 December 2007

North West has become synonymous with excellence in government
communication. Charles Raseala, Director of Communication in the Department of
Education, has scooped the Provincial Bua Award during the Government
Communicators' Awards held in Midrand over the weekend. The Bua Award category
recognises media liaison officers, departmental spokespersons and individual
communicators who display courage, commitment, dedication and discipline in
their work. Communicators who at all times go the extra mile to get the job
done.

Charles consistently ensures that his department is able to handle media
issues with appropriate speed and authority. Be it negative or positive
stories, such as tensions of Khutsong, Charles accompany the media to schools
to cover stories. In addition, he conducts regular networking sessions with the
media to keep relationships cordial. He also established "Kitso Thuto", a
monthly newspaper that goes out to schools, communities and other
stakeholders.

Raseala's award is the fourth prestigious communication award received by
the North West Provincial Government since 2004. In 2005, the Media Relations
Unit in the Office of the Premier, under the leadership of Russel Mamabolo, won
the coveted Provincial\Local Bua Award for an innovative media programme that
focused on profiling the activities of the Premier of the province, Edna
Molewa.

In 2004, the spokesperson for the provincial government, Cornelius Tanana
Monama, was awarded both the Provincial\Local Bua Award and the
Provincial/Local Ubungcweti Award for ensuring consistency of messages that
reflect the thinking of government policy.

"On behalf of the Provincial Communicators' Forum and the provincial
government, I wish to congratulate Raseala for doing our province proud. We
also thank the army of government communicators who were united behind Raseala
during the entire process", said Cornelius Monama, head of government
communication in the North West.

An independent panel drawn from representatives of the South African
Editors' Forum (SANEF), Media Development and Diversity Agency MDDA, the
National Community Radio Forum (NCRF), the National Association of Broadcasters
(NAB) and the Chairperson of the Communications Portfolio Committee adjudicated
this year's nominations and entries. The Government Communicator of the Year
was awarded to the Communication Department, Greater Sekhukhune District
Municipality.
