Women from across the North West province will, on Monday, 31 July 2006,
march to the offices of the provincial government to submit a memorandum to
Premier Edna Molewa. Mondayâs march, which will be led by the veterans of the
1956 march, will be a re-enactment of the 1956 womenâs march to the Union
Buildings (Pretoria) in protest against plans to extend passes to African
women.
The march will serve as an official launch of the August Womenâs Month
programme and as a launch pad for a series of provincial activities scheduled
for Womenâs Month. It will start at Mmabana Grounds (Mmabatho) and proceed to
the Provincial Legislature at Ga-Rona Building, where a petition will be handed
over to the Premier.
The detailed Women's Month programme is herewith attached. The programme for
this year will be driven under the theme: âAge of hope: through struggle to
freedomâ.
