The North West province will host a three-day Public Works and Transport
Sports Tournament to be held from 4 to 7 October 2006 in Mafikeng.

The tournament launched in KwaZulu-Natal province in 2004, and hosted by
Western Cape last year, is hosted jointly by the provincial Department of
Public Works and Transport, Roads and Community Safety.

Participants from different provinces including the national Departments of
Public Works and Transport are expected to arrive in the City of Goodwill as
from Wednesday for registration.

The interdepartmental and inter-provincial sports competition will kick-off
with a fun run at 06h00 on the morning of Thursday, 5 October 2006. The event
is open for employees of participating departments. The official opening is
scheduled for 08h00 at the Mmabatho Stadium.

South African Football Association (SAFA) North West and Netball South
Africa assisted the North West Public Works team selection processes and the 79
players selected are oozing with confidence.

In wishing the departmental teams well, MEC Yawa said, "The Platinum pride
is at stake. As soccer champions for the second year in a row we cannot afford
to lose on home ground. The support we have given our players in other sporting
codes should also translate into gold."

The main sporting codes of the tournament are soccer for men and ladies,
netball and volleyball.

The closing and prize-giving function is to be held at the Mmabatho
Convention Centre at 19h00 on Saturday evening.
