Media is invited to the forthcoming Presidential Imbizo. The Deputy
President of the Republic of South Africa, Mrs Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will
visit Bophirima District from 19 to 20 May 2006 as part of the Presidential
Imbizo programme. Greater Taung Local Municipality will be the host
municipality.
The 2006 imbizo is a continuation of the 2005 intensive programme of
municipality imbizo Project Consolidate. However, it will be more intensified
as more time has been dedicated to the programme. Furthermore, public
participation will be broadened given the fact that at least two consecutive
days have been set aside by the Deputy President. The imbizo will also be
aligned to the governmentâs programme of action, Project Consolidate and
Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA).
The broader objectives of the imbizo are:
* continued programme of unmediated interaction between government and the
people
* vehicle for promotion and âimplementationâ of POA, Project Consolidate and
AsgiSA
* building the capacity and capability of the sate machinery to deliver will
be key and central to the imbizo.
Departments will exhibit their services so that the community may interact
with government officials and receive immediate services where necessary.
The Deputy President will on Friday, 19 May 2006, visit a number of
community projects and interact with stakeholders. On Saturday, 20 May 2006,
she will interact and listen to community concerns during the imbizo at the
Taung Sports Grounds.
Journalists who wish to attend the imbizo should confirm their attendance
with Malentswe Tsheole at 083 578 1876.
