encourage the residents and business people to pay for the services
23 October 2006
Operation Agopatalwe will officially be launched on Monday, 23 October 2006
at the Mamusa town hall, starting from 18h00.
Amongst the people expected to attend the launch is the MEC for
Developmental Local Government and Housing, Phenye Vilakazi, Executive Mayor of
Bophirima district municipality, Kaone Lobelo, Mayor of Mamusa, Rancho Gincane,
municipal officials, business people, ward committee members as well
representatives from non-governmental organisations.
After the launch, all the councillors will participate in ward meetings
where they will be expected to explain the purpose of the campaign to members
of the community, who would then be given a platform to raise their
concerns.
The municipality has been struggling to collect its revenue and as a result,
Vilakazi has since deployed a financial expert, Professor George Williams, to
turnaround the financial affairs of the municipality. Vilakazi also deployed
the Chief Director for monitoring and intervention at the department, Seth
