North West province will hold its two-day 2010 provincial conference this
week in Sun City. The conference, which will be used as a platform to assess
the province's readiness for the world's biggest football showpiece, starts on
Wednesday.

The conference will be held under the theme: 'Holding a successful FIFA
World Cup and leaving a lasting South African legacy in the North West.'

"The Conference will seek to produce a proper assessment of the collective
work done to ensure that the province is ready to deliver a successful World
Cup," said Ndleleni Duma, the MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture who is also the
Chairperson of the Provincial World Cup Committee.

Rustenburg will be one of the host cities of the 2010 games. Royal Bafokeng
Stadium has been selected as one of the stadia where the 2010 games will be
played. The provincial government is doing everything possible to ensure that
all stakeholders play their roles to ensure that the province contributes
towards the success of the World Cup.

"We are confident that we are on track with regard to preparations," said
Duma.

Amongst stakeholders expected to attend the conference are key people from
the Local Organising Committee, MECs, senior government officials, football
