The provincial department has released directives to all districts and sub
districts last month after the national department advised provinces to recall
all male condoms manufactured by Zalatex from all distribution points.
The affected condoms are continuously sent to the national department
through arrangements with the province to be quarantined and tested, prior to
any further distribution or disposing, depending on the retesting results.
All users should note that the quality of condoms from all other
manufacturers is confirmed to be of high quality and distribution should
continue as normal. The national logistics unit has committed to do everything
to replace the quarantined Zalatex condoms at the primary distribution sites
from one of the other manufacturers as soon as possible.
Condoms recall progress in the province:
The following progress has been made in retrieving condoms from all
sub-districts in the province.
* Taung Sub district: 204 000 condoms retrieved
* Mafikeng Sub district: 642 000 condoms retrieved
All other Sub districts reported to have no Zalatex condoms in their
sites.
Condoms from other manufacturers like Equity (EQU), Supex (SPX), Medikor
(MED), dual health and others are safe to be used.
The search for any Zalatex condoms at distribution points is still
continuing as the department would like to take all the necessary precautions
to ensure public safety.
All users are cautioned to read the block of the condom foil and if any
written ZLX/090603 found, it should not be used. The name of the distribution
site where the condom was accessed should be reported to the nearest clinic so
that Zalatex condoms can be retrieved from that site.
The department assures the community that the situation is under control and
there is no need to panic.
