Taung - North West Health authorities likes to assure communities in and
around Taung that there is no outbreak of diarrhoea or malaria as reported by
some section of the media and authorities in the Taung Local Municipality.
Currently our multi-outbreak response team is working on the ground with the
municipality and water samples taken for laboratory tests all produced negative
results. We can confirm that in the affected communities the majority of people
are drinking water from boreholes and water from Sedibeng water authorities,
which in essence limits the chances of a possible water contamination, which in
many case is the cause of diarrhoea.
We are not ruling out the possibilities of the spread of water-born diseases
and emergence of ailments associated with colds, fever and flue resulting from
displacements and changing weather partners. Our outbreak response team and the
entire Health Department are on high alert ready to deal with any situation in
the floods hit Taung villages.
We are appealing to our communities to remain cum and work closely with our
team that is assessing the situation.
