North West Health on reopening of Lehurutshe Hospital

Lehurutshe Hospital in Zeerust opens to the public again

21 February 2006

Zeerust - It’s all system go at the Lehurutshe Hospital near Zeerust, which
was closed two weeks ago due to electrical box explosion. From today (Tuesday,
21 February) doctors and nurses will be seeing patients and normal day-to-day
hospital duties will be in full swing.

After the explosion over 55 patients were evacuated to the nearby Zeerust
Hospital and Dinokana Health Centre while technicians were working on the
damage, which left the entire hospital in a blackout and workers and patients
in state of shock.

"We have fixed all the faulty cables and are now certain that the problem
will not recur again. We sincerely thank and apologise to our patients and
communities who stood with us and heeded our call to use Zeerust Hospital
temporarily," said North West Health MEC Nomonde Rasmeni.

The cause of the blast was a faulty circuit breaker from the main power
supply, which failed to trip and caused an overflow of power supply resulting
in too much pressure. The cost of the damage is still unknown at the present
moment.
