North West Economic Development and Tourism hosts Mega
Expo

26 November 2007

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with
municipalities will be hosting its fourth Mega Expo on 28 November to 1
December 2007 at Mmabatho Convention Centre. The Mega Expo aimed at creating a
platform for the emerging and existing small, medium and micro enterprises
(SMMEs), to network with other businesses both locally and neighbouring
countries and also to showcase their products. The Mega Expo will further
assist SMMEs by addressing the problem of access to markets especially to the
emerging ones. The theme for the Mega Expo is "accelerating the implementation
of the second economy interventions".

The department is expecting approximately 250 SMMEs across all the sectors
from the four regions of the North West province. Government departments will
also showcase their core business in terms of SMMEs; this will afford them an
opportunity for SMMEs to interact directly with government. The Department of
Trade and Industry will also assist SMMEs in terms of access to finance.
Proudly South African has been invited to create awareness in advising SMMEs on
standards they need to meet in terms of their export markets.

As part of enhancing and accelerating the implementation of the second
economy interventions, the department will also host two seminars, i.e.
disability seminar and details are as follows:

Date: 28 November 2007
Venue: South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Premises
Time: 08h30

The aim is to address the challenges faced by the persons with disability
and this is done in collaboration with Disabled People of South Africa
(DPSA).

Secondly, women in business seminar will be held and details are as
follows:

Date: 29 November 2007
Venue: South African Broadcasting Corporation Premises
Time: 08h30

The focus will be on the following sectors; mining, tourism, manufacturing,
construction and agriculture. It is envisaged that the women in business
seminar will address major sectors as eluded by MEC during his departmental
Budget Speech 2007/08.
