North West Economic Development and Tourism on bio-diesel
project

Bio-diesel project challenges addressed

13 March 2007

Following a spate of challenges that have surrounded the bio-diesel project,
the Department of Economic Development and Tourism took the first step in
addressing part of the challenges by paying the salaries of employees at the
project.

The salaries of approximately 47 employees were delayed by ten days and this
resulted in the employees raising concerns that led to the misconception that
the project was collapsing. "We would like to state that the project is still
in full swing and not in any danger of collapsing. We had a meeting with the
employees to explain the delay and their salaries were paid today," said Ms
Dumisa Seshabela, the Department's Head of Communication and Information
Technology.

The Department will announce some of the steps it will take, together with
the other stakeholders in the project, in ensuring that the challenges
encountered by the project and its employees do not occur again. The
announcements will be made during a press conference that will be held in due
course.
