North West Department of Transport confirms court appearance of its
Chief Director

Court appearance of Mr Nchaupe Solly Malebye on allegations of
fraud and corruption

3 May 2006

The North West Department of Transport, Roads and Community Safety confirms
that one of its Chief Directors, Mr Nchaupe Solly Malebye, is on trial at the
Mafikeng Regional Court in Mmabatho on charges of fraud and corruption.

The charges preferred against the accused, arose in 2004 while he was
employed by the former Department of Roads and Public Works.

“We cannot at this stage comment about the merits of the case which is
currently before the court of law.

“We have however, as the department, noted the seriousness of the criminal
charges the State has preferred against Mr Malebye,” said MEC for Transport,
Roads and Community Safety, Jerry Thibedi.

“For now, more so that the matter is sub judice, we will treat these charges
against Malebye as allegations because we believe that any person is innocent
until proven guilty by a court of law.

“Let the due process of the law take its course. From our side as the
department it is well known by now that we have adopted a zero tolerance
approach in dealing with fraud and corruption,” Thibedi warned.
