New Year’s babies in Free State

37 babies born in Free State on New Year’s Day

Maternity wards at 10 public hospitals in the Free State experienced a quiet
New Year’s day this year with 37 babies being born.

Staff at the Elizabeth Ross District Hospital in QwaQwa welcomed the first
baby born at 00:57. Ms Teboho Mokoena gave birth to a healthy boy weighing 3,68
kg. The first three babies born in 2006 were all boys and Morena Victor Peza
was welcomed at 01:00 at the Botshabelo District Hospital weighing 3,1kg. Ms
Mataiji gave birth to her son, weighing 4,8kg at 01:30 at the Diamant District
Hospital in Jagersfontein.

Bongani Regional Hospital in Welkom played host to nine new-borns yesterday
and the Elizabeth Ross District Hospital in QwaQwa hosted six.
