The National Development Agency (NDA) will hold a staff meeting in which the
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Godfrey Mokate, will share with staff the plans to
realign the organisation to its new strategic focus. This meeting will happen
on Tuesday, 2 May 2006, in a spirit of transparency and accountability.
The decision to realign was taken after the board of the NDA made it clear
that the strategic direction of the agency was a key priority. The strategy was
then created by way of a comprehensive strategic planning process, a
consultative process that engaged senior NDA staff and key stakeholders and was
facilitated by a strategic planning specialist. The result was that the
Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya, approved the new strategic
plan for the NDA and this will therefore ensure delivery against the strategic
goals set out in the strategy.
"This is very important for us going forward as it creates a standard and
performance baseline by which we are going to measure ourselves in future,"
said Chief Executive Officer Mr Godfrey Mokate.
The process started in July last year and the aim was to focus the
organisation around poverty eradication using the best and most appropriate
business model. It was felt that this would enhance the NDAs capacity and
improve its performance. This aspect involves among others matters relating to
location of people in relation to their skills, individual skills and
competencies.
The NDA has improved in terms of addressing the backlog in terms of payments
to the approved projects. The NDA has put mechanisms in place to monitor, in a
continuous manner, the performance of the organisation against its strategic
objectives. Training programmes at all levels for staff members have been
initiated to improve skills development and enhance competencies.
It is also worth noting that labour relations have improved over the past
three quarters. Moving forward the organisation started implementing some of
the objectives as stated in the strategic plan document with the aim of
rebuilding the NDA as a centre of excellence and a point of reference on
poverty eradication and development in South Africa
