23 January 2006
The Minister of Finance, Mr Trevor A Manuel, MP, will present the 2006
Budget to Parliament (his tenth) on 15 February 2006. The National Treasury
will once again be arranging workshops for journalists to guide and assist them
on how to work with the various documents. The National Treasury and South
African Revenue Service (SARS) produce a host of different documents around the
budget, namely
* The Budget Speech
* The Budget Review
* Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE)
* Estimates of National Revenue (ENR)
* Division of Revenue Bill (DOR)
* Tax Pocket Guide from SARS
* Budget Proposal from SARS
* Peoples Guide to the Budget
The workshop will include presentations by senior National Treasury and SARS
officials about some of the key areas of the Budget that journalists may need
some guidance on. The same officials will be available to assist during the
lock-ups. We welcome your ideas and suggestions on topics you would like us to
cover and request that you bring along copies of the 2005 Budget documents, as
these will be used throughout the workshop. Copies are available on the
website, http://www.treasury.gov.za.
Date: Monday, 13 February 2006
Venue: Good Hope Chambers, Tuinhuis, Cape Town (Around Parliament)
Time: 08h15 for 08h30 registration
All journalists who would like to attend the workshop must please forward
their details to lindani.mbunyuza@treasury.gov.za
or call (012) 315 5645 before Monday, 6 February 2006.
