Justice George Maluleka found Mongezi Jinxela guilty of raping 57 women. He
is by far one of the worst serial rapists in this country. He had continued to
prey on vulnerable and unsuspecting members of our communities. He had caused
human savagery for far too long. He had inflicted unimaginable pain and
hardship to his victims. The long arm of the law finally caught up with
him.
Notwithstanding the violations he caused, witnesses and victims alike
displayed enormous courage by testifying against Jinxela. They certainly showed
bravery and their unwavering commitment to justice and freedom.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) would like to register its
recognition of the hard work carried out in this case at both investigations by
the South African Police Service as well as the prosecution of the case by the
members of our staff. This is but an example of a pledge that our law
enforcement agencies are making to South Africa that we will pursue
relentlessly those by whose conduct have disqualified themselves as unfit to
live in harmony in our communities.
To those who violate especially women and children through cowardly acts
that include rape, we say to them the organs of state will spare no effort in
pursuing them and that they will probably be convicted once prosecuted
following their arrest.
