The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) hereby confirms that the
Directorate of Special Operations (DSO), commonly referred to as the Scorpions,
arrested Graham Allen Maddock and Joseph Arthur Brown on Tuesday, 14 August
2007 in Cape Town. They appeared before the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on the
following charges: theft (R5,5 million) and fraud/theft (R3,8 million). The
Scorpions will allege in court that the two men are behind the loss and/or
potential loss suffered by the two companies Infinity (Pty) Limited and Fundi
Projects (Pty) Limited.
The two men were out on bail in connection with other investigations by the
Scorpions and have been granted bail in the amount of R5 000 for each of the
accused with conditions that include the following:
* that they surrender all their passports (previous and current) to the
Scorpion's Investigating Officer,
* that the accused are not to enter the international point (arrival or
departure sections) without consent of the Investigating Officer,
* that the accused must apply in writing to the Scorpions for permission,
should he need to travel outside the Republic of South Africa,
* that the accused (Maddock and Brown) must report daily at the Wynberg and
Milnerton Police Stations respectively until the trial is finalised.
The case has been postponed to 3 October 2007 at the Cape Town Magistrate's
court.
