death of King Xolilizwe Sigcau
4 January 2006
The National House of Traditional Leaders has learnt with grief and sadness
of the passing away of Ikumkani Xolilizwe Sigcau on 31 December 2005.
The National House of Traditional Leaders has always found Ikumkani Sigcau
an outstanding leader, who always championed the causes of his community and
people.
As a traditional leader, public figure and nation builder, he will be sorely
missed, not only by his family, but also by his community, government, fellow
traditional leaders as well as all those who have had the privilege of meeting
and working with him during his lifetime.
The King Hintsa Award for bravery is one of the legacies that Ikumkani
Sigcau will be best remembered for. This award was given to courageous South
Africans, including among others Oliver Tambo, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, Allan
Boesak and Albertina Sisulu.
The National House of Traditional Leaders believes, however, that the Nqandu
Great House will, despite the loss of a leader of such a great stature,
continue to play the meaningful role of promoting good governance, peace and
prosperity in our land.
