2006/07

"Over 92% of the promises achieved," Rasmeni said boldly

31 March 2006

Mafikeng - MEC for Health in the North West province courageously told the
Provincial Legislature that the Department managed to deliver its mandate as
promised in the previous financial year.

Rasmeni, who was tabling the 2006/07 Budget Speech on Thursday, said this
high percentage was attained in all health delivery aspects because of the
commitment shown by health workers.

Amongst the achievements, MEC Rasmeni informed the Legislature about the
tremendous progress registered in the following:

* Attend to the accommodation and security needs of our health workers
especially in our rural facilities and spending over R9 million for uniform
allowances for our nurses.
*·Develop our Human Resources Plan for health and the Employment Equity
Plan.
*·Resolve legal issues around Victoria Hospital public private partnership
initiative.
*·Complete the planning phase for the construction of Brits Hospital.
*·Completed eight clinics including Itsoseng and Kraaipan clinics. Twenty-one
more are due for completion this financial year.
*·Improve our Emergency Medical Rescue (EMR) services and further spend over R9
million for salary adjustment of some of our EMR officers.
*·Prepare for take-over of mortuaries and forensic services from South African
Police Service by our Department.
*·Purchase more ambulances and deploy them accordingly in our hard hit
areas.
*·Increase our Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) sites from five in 2005, to 15 in
2006, and hope to reach twenty (20) sites by June 2006.
*·And finish the launch of Provincial Health Council and all outstanding
governance structures.

"These and some of our achievements earned us the Premier's Best performing
department award early this year. We still believe that we could have not
achieved this if it was not for our workers who tirelessly ensured that the
optimum health for all becomes a reality. We will indeed redouble our efforts
to ensure that what is outstanding is duly completed this financial year," MEC
told the Legislature.
