campaign, 12 Apr

North West Health MEC to help in cleaning Gelukspan
Hospital

10 April 2006

Gelukspan – MEC responsible for Health in the North West Province, Nomonde
Rasmeni, will on Wednesday, 12 April 2006, work together with Gelukspan
Hospital management and staff members in the cleaning, gardening and painting
of the hospital.

This will be done as part of the Department’s Letsema campaign that is aimed
at commemorating April Health Month as declared by government. Letsema
campaign’s main objective is to among others celebrate the dignity and value of
working for health as well as improving the outlook of the provincial health
facilities.

“There is a general feeling that our facilities’ outlook needs to be
improved. It has been reported in the past that some health facilities are not
in good looking state, with old and not attracting painting and gardening. We
now believe that nothing should stop us from making our facilities’ outlook the
first healing step, meaning that our patients should feel welcome as they enter
our premises and feel protected during their visits to our facilities,”
explained MEC Rasmeni.

MEC Rasmeni will on Wednesday put on her overall and make sure that complaints
regarding the cleanliness of Gelukspan Hospital, become a thing of the past.
The MEC will lead by example and assist in the gardening, the painting, and the
general cleaning of this hospital, starting at 08h00 in the morning.

“We want to vigorously advocate a message that says cleanliness is healthy
living. This cleanliness can improve the image of state hospitals and motivate
our people to put their trust in not only the medication prescribed, but also
in the health workers and the general environment. We still believe that if we
work together for health, we can make a vast difference in this regard,”
concluded MEC Nomonde Rasmeni.

Members of the media are invited to join this Letsema and use their public
standing position to drum in the message that says cleanliness is healthy
living.
