The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor (MP) will on Monday, 14 August
2006, at 08h00 officially receive about 500 copies of the History Volume, âThe
Road to Democracy in South Africa, volume 1â, donated to the Department of
Education by the South African Democracy Education (SADET).
The handover function will take place at the Orlando West High School, near
Hector Peterson Museum in Soweto. The books are about the history of the South
African liberation struggle from 1960 to 1970.
The Minister will then donate some of the 500 books to Orlando West High
School. The Department of Education has in addition printed over 9 000 copies
of the same book, to be distributed to schools nationally. The history
educators will use them as a resource.
