announced by the Minister of Education in education budget vote speech

"It is a long time since we have been able to make such a significant
investment in infrastructure development in higher education," the Minister of
Education, Naledi Pandor said today. In the far north of the country, the
University of Venda will receive R207 million to refurbish student residences
and teaching facilities. In the near future, all the students at the University
of Venda will be able to attend lectures without overflowing into
corridors.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) will receive R200 million. Along
with matching funds from an international donor, this will enable UWC to
realise its plans for a new biological sciences building, which will radically
change the face of the university. The University of Johannesburg plans to
utilise R300 million to revitalise its Soweto campus, which was a campus of the
former Vista university.

Similarly, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will be using its
funding to upgrade the former Vista campus in Port Elizabeth. The Tshwane
University of Technology has already begun work on renewing its student
residences.
