Minister of Education and provincial education MECs to brief
media on the outcomes of the Council of Education Ministers' (CEM)
meeting

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, together with the provincial
education MECs will, on Monday, 26 February 2007, at 13h00 brief the media on
the outcomes of the first 2007 Council of Education Ministers' Meeting at the
Commodore Hotel, V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

During the briefing, the North West provincial MEC for Education will also
officially hand over the "torch of peace" to his counterpart from the Northern
Cape province.

The CEM Meeting will among many issues discuss:

* reports on the 2006 Senior Certificate, Adult Basic Education and Training
(ABET) and Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges Examinations
* national Education Infrastructure Management System
* implementation of the National Strategy for Mathematics, Science and
Technology in the Dinaledi schools
* implementation of the National Curriculum Statement: Grade 10 � 12
(General)
* performance on national priorities
* recapitalisation of Further Education and Training Colleges
* looming crisis: teachers leaving profession.
