Minister Pandor and teachers unions to sign an agreement to
improve educator’s salaries

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, and representatives of four
teacher unions will on Thursday, 4 May 2006, address a media briefing on an
agreement to improve educator’s salaries.

The Department of Education and teacher unions will sign two major
agreements that bring about new ways in which educators can improve their
remuneration through improved career pathing and accelerated salary progression
for educators and the revised school grading norms.

The agreement will be signed by the Minister, representing the Department of
Education, the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), the National
Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), Suid-Afrikaanse
Onderwys Unie (SAOU) and the National Teachers Union (NATU).

All these initiatives are part of the R4.2 billion allocated to improve the
remuneration of educators.
