Education (NIHE) in Mpumalanga, Saturday, 21 October 2006

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor (MP), accompanied by the
Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr Thabang Makwetla, and the MEC for Education, Mr
Siphosezwe Masango, will on Saturday, 21 October 2006, at 12h00 officially
launch the NIHE at the eMnothweni Arena, Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.
The launch is in accordance with the National Plan for Higher Education,
which proposed the establishment of the NIHE in Mpumalanga and the Northern
Cape provinces to facilitate the provision of higher education.
Following the nomination processes by the provinces, the Minister of
Education approved the appointment of the Boards in July and September
2006.

The main objective of the NIHE is to co-ordinate the regional provision of
higher education by ensuring the coherent provision of higher education through
programme collaboration between public higher education institutions operating
in the province. The NIHE will also advise the Minister on matters relating to
the co-ordination of the provision of higher education.
