Minister Pandor to address the launch of Thuto Schools Project
and host the Language Colloquium

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, MP, will on Saturday, 29 July
2006, at 10h00 deliver the keynote address at the launch of the Tiisa Thuto
Schools Project at Kheleng Secondary School, Hennenman, in the Free State.

The Tiisa Thuto Schools Project is run by the Department of Education in
partnership with the Business Against Crime South Africa. It is aimed at
promoting a safe and supportive environment for learners and educators in our
schools.

On Monday, 31 July 2006, the Minister Pandor will host the Language
Colloquium at the Cullinan Hotel in Cape Town.

Minister Pandor will deliver the opening address at the Colloquium at 09h00.
(Media is invited only for the opening address).

The aim of the language colloquium is to discuss policy and practice with
regards to language in education.

The language colloquium will be attended by the Deputy Minister of
Education, Mr Enver Surty, provincial MECs for education, heads of departments,
leading academics, such as Professor Njabulo Ndebele, National School Governing
Bodies (NSGB), representatives from the South African Teachers’ Union (SAOU),
Pan South African Language Board (PANSALB), Higher Education South Africa
(HESA), Polygraph Association of South Africa (PASA) and MINDSET
representatives from the Department of Arts and Culture and senior officials
from both provincial and national Departments of Education.
