Aggrey Klaaste Maths, Science and Technology 2005/06 Educator
of the Year Awards, Gallagher Estates, Midrand, Johannesburg

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, MP, will on Thursday, 23 March
2006, at 19h00, deliver a keynote address at the seventh annual Aggrey Klaaste
Maths, Science and Technology Educator of the Year Awards.

Minister Pandor is the national patron of these prestigious awards, while
provincial MECs for Education are patrons in their respective provinces.

The objectives of these prestigious awards are:

* To identify teachers who have managed to motivate, inspire and produce
good results in Maths and Science during the past 10 - 20 years
* To identify, record and publish the qualities and characteristics of practice
that made these teachers stand out
* To award practicing and retired educators in recognition of their efforts to
dispel myths linked to these subjects

Educators are nominated by their learners, community members, principals and
other teachers in all nine provinces. The competition is open to teachers in
public schools. Those who meet the criteria are short listed and interviewed by
a judging panel, which includes specialists in Maths, Science and Technology
specialists.
 
These extraordinary educators work tirelessly to improve the quality of
teaching and learning of Maths, Science and Technology in their schools and
communities. The Telkom Foundation and the Sowetan newspaper jointly sponsor
the awards.
