The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health, Ms Neliswa Nkonyeni, will be hosting the
KwaZulu-Natal Health Consultative Forum which will bring together
representatives from various sectors including the hospital boards, clinic
committees, civil society organisations, traditional health practitioners,
trade unions, tertiary institutions, private health institutions,
pharmaceutical companies, financial institutions and various other
organisations.
This event will be held on 17 July 2007 at the Royal Show Grounds in
Pietermaritzburg. Among the issues that will be addressed are the
following:
* Provincial Health Bill and the Provincial Traditional Health Practitioners
Bill
* progress report on the Tuberculosis (TB) Crisis Management Plan,
* National Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), TB, HIV and AIDS Strategic
Plan 2007/11,
* report on the departmental preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup,
* maternal, child and women's health,
* Inanda-Ntuzuma-KwaMashu (INK) Hospital Development Plans,
* report on the targeted enterprises unit of the Department of Health.
These matters will be discussed by all delegates and issues that need to be
raised at the coming National Health Consultative Forum will be identified.
The Provincial Health Consultative Forum is tasked, by the National Health
Act, with: 'Promoting and facilitating interaction, communication and sharing
of information on provincial health issues.' The Act gives guiding principles
about these forums, emphasising that their purpose is to exchange information
between government and all relevant stakeholders on provincial and municipal
health issues.
This forum forms part of the Department's commitment to involving
communities in the development, implementation and monitoring of health
policies and programmes in the province.
