MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Nomsa Mtsweni, will be delivering
a keynote address at the Ma Afrika Provincial Awards, which will be held this
Saturday, 19 August at the Emalahleni Town Hall in Witbank, Nkangala District
Municipality.
Ma Afrika Awards are part of the African Unionâs projects which are bestowed
annually on women at grassroot level, who are committed to uplift, educate and
develop others in their communities. This is an African Renaissance Project
that was founded in 1994 by women such as Rowena Veldman, Nicollette Geyer and
Babsy Makhanya.
The focus of attention for Ma Afrika Awards this year will be encapsulated
in the theme âWomen in Fashion design and small, medium and micro enterprises
(SMME) promoting Rea apara projectâ.
This Saturday will see 12 candidates competing to be the overall winner in
the following categories:
* project with the most impact in the community
* project which is original and interesting
* project which is successful despite major obstacles or challenges
The overall winner will join other winners from the eight provinces in the
National Ma Afrika Awards where one winner will be selected to represent South
Africa in the International Awards.
Members of Executive Councils (MECs), Members of Provincial
Legislatures(MPLs), mayors, senior government officials and other important
dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion. Well-established local cultural
artists will entertain the audience.
