(MPCC)
21 February 2007
The Gauteng Provincial Government is to continue strengthening service
delivery in communities with the opening of Gauteng's 27th Multi-Purpose
Community Centre in Vosloorus on Friday, 23 February.
The Vosloorus Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC) launch is in line with
Premier Mbhazima Shilowa's commitment to have 40 MPCCs in Gauteng by 2009.
Since 2000, local, provincial and national government together with other
stakeholders have established a total of 26 MPCCs in Gauteng. The Vosloorus
MPCC will bring the total to 27.
The keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Home Affairs,
Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, and the launch will also be addressed by Ekurhuleni
Executive Mayor Duma Nkosi, members of the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Committee, ward
councillors and officials from national, provincial and local government.
The centre is in line with government's commitment to bringing services
closer to the people. The MPCC gives communities one-stop access to government
information and services to improve their lives. Services from non-governmental
organisations, parastatals and business are also offered.
Instead of having to travel to many different offices, residents can go to
one place to have most of their needs met. MPCCs therefore represent a dynamic
partnership between government and the people to build a better life.
The Vosloorus MPCC precinct includes the Vosloorus Customer Care Centre and
the local Civic Centre, which is about one kilometre away from the care centre.
The management of the centre falls under Ekurhuleni Municipality.
