Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will attend the sixth
anniversary of the World Refugee Day commemorations to be held in Motherwell,
Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, 20 June 2007.
The day, to be hosted in partnership with the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the South African Human Rights Commission
(SAHRC), seeks to bring to the fore the plight refugees face worldwide in their
pursuit for better living conditions away from persecutions in their own
countries. South Africa commemorates the day under the theme, "Promoting
tolerance and acceptance through diversity."
As part of the day's proceedings, Minister Mapisa-Nqakula and the provincial
leadership will participate in a march aimed at raising awareness about the
plight of refugees.
