The National Convener for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against
Women and Children Campaign, Deputy Minister for Provincial and Local
Government, Nomatyala Hangana, invites media to attend a media briefing on the
2006 campaign. The briefing will give a detailed report back on all aspects of
the 16 days campaign for 2006, by highlighting successes registered and
challenges encountered during the campaign, and outline a programme to scale up
the partnership between government and civil society organisations to intensify
the fight against gender violence in South Africa. The Deputy Minister will be
joined by representatives from South African Post Office (SAPO), National
Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Leaf Wireless, Gender and Media Southern Africa
(GEMSA), Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) and EngenderHealth to give their own
perspectives and account of the successes and challenges of the campaign.
For the convenience of the Johannesburg-based media, there will be a video
link up to Pretoria, GCIS Room 710, Corner Prinsloo and Vermeulen.
