Sept

Deputy Minister Nomatyala Hangana, addresses Women in Local
Government conference, on 27 - 28 September 2006, in Port Elizabeth

21 September 2006

Women from all structures of local government are gathering in Port
Elizabeth to discuss issues that affect them and their society in general. The
conference is also an extension of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of
the Women's March in 1956. The Deputy Minister for Provincial and Local
Government, Ms Nomatyala Hangana, who is also a National Convener for the 16
Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Children Campaign, will on 28
September 2006 deliver a keynote address in this conference.

The conference themed: “Age of Hope through Struggle to Freedom” will among
other things, assess the outcomes of the local government elections and explore
ways of ensuring effective participation of women in decision-making
processes.

With the conference taking place in Port Elizabeth, recently hit by floods,
delegates in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will during
their stay in the district look at ways in which they can help families left
destitute by these devastating floods.

We therefore wish to extend our invitation to all members of the media to be
part of this celebration.

The conference details are as follows:
Date: 27 – 28 September 2006
Venue: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth
Time: 12h00 on day one and 08h15 on day two
