Minister Dlamini Zuma to host 4th joint consultative mechanism
between South Africa and Cuba

26 January 2006

South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, will host her
Cuban counterpart Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque during the 4th session of
the Joint Consultative Mechanism between South Africa and Cuba in Hermanus in
the Western Cape, scheduled from Saturday to Sunday, 28 - 29 January 2006.

The annual Consultative Mechanism is an important forum for the Foreign
Ministries of both South Africa and Cuba to exchange views on the bilateral
relationship and to reflect on international issues and challenges facing both
of them and humanity in general. It thus provides an opportunity to enhance
relations and further increase multilateral co-operation between South Africa
and Cuba.

Issues on the agenda of discussions between Foreign Ministers Dlamini Zuma
and Perez Roque and their delegations are expected to include, among
others:
* Bilateral political and economic developments since the South Africa-Cuba
Joint Binational Commission held in Cuba in September 2005
* Political and economic developments in SADC
* Perspectives in developments in Africa and the Middle East
* Conflict resolution in Africa
* Perspectives on developments in Latin America and the Caribbean
* The comprehensive reform of the United Nations
* Progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
* Disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control
* Iran’s nuclear programme within the context of the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA); and
* Developments with regard to international economic diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque is currently in South Africa where he is
scheduled to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Troika meeting
together with the Foreign Ministers of South Africa and Malaysia, Dr Nkosazana
Dlamini Zuma and Syed Hamid Albar in Hermanus from Thursday to Friday, 26 - 27
January 2006.
