New York - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is
scheduled later today, Monday 18 September 2006 to hold several bilateral
consultations with her counterparts from various parts of the world on the
margins of the 61st Session of the UNGA in New York.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is part of the South African government delegation to
the UNGA led by President Thabo Mbeki. The South African delegation is
participating in the UNGA within South Africa's conviction that the
multilateral system of global governance remains the only hope in addressing
challenges facing humanity including efforts aimed at pushing back the
frontiers of poverty and under- development.
In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma will today:
1. hold bilateral consultations with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Massiml DâAlema
2. hold bilateral consultations with World Food Programmeâs Deputy Executive
Secretary Sheila Sisulu
3. attend the joint India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) meeting with China and
Mexico hosted by Mexico
4. attend a follow up meeting of the IBSA Foreign Ministers following the
recent inaugural session of the IBSA Heads of State and Government held in
Brasilia last week.
The bilateral consultations are part of a series that the South African
delegation led by President Mbeki will be holding throughout the 61st session
of the UNGA.
