General Assembly ahead of visit of Chancellor Angela Merkel

2 October 2007

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will today, Tuesday, 2
October 2007, conclude her visit to New York, where she led the South African
delegation to the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, ahead of
the scheduled working visit to South Africa of German Chancellor Angela
Merkel.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected later today to join United
Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and Sonia Gandhi in addressing the first

that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Satyagraha remains relevant to resolution
of current challenges facing humanity today as it was yesterday.

On Monday, 1 October, Minister Dlamini Zuma signed the Host Country
Agreement for the Regional Service Centre of the United Nations Development
Programme in South Africa and held bilateral discussions with the Indian and
Moroccan Foreign ministers as well as with American civil rights leader
Reverent Jessie Jackson.
