China-Africa Co-Operation Summit

Beijing - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today
Wednesday, 1 November 2006, arrived in Beijing, China ahead of the Forum on
China-Africa Ministerial meeting, scheduled for Friday, 3 November 2006. The
Ministerial session of the China-Africa Forum (FOCAC) will precede the Summit
of Heads of State and Government to be attended by amongst others, South
African President Thabo Mbeki scheduled from Saturday - Sunday, 4 - 5 November
2006.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is also scheduled to hold discussions with her Chinese
counterpart Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing on Thursday, 2 November 2006.
Discussions are expected to include, among others:
* preparations for the FOCAC Ministerial and Summit meetings
* bilateral political and economic relations between both countries
* conflict resolution and peacekeeping in Africa
* North Korea's decision to rejoin the 6-Party talks
* other issues of mutual concern.
FOCAC is a mechanism for collective dialogue and multilateral co-operation,
concentrating on issues of economic and social development between Africa and
China. President Mbeki is expected to arrive in Beijing on Friday, 3 November
2006.
